Undersheriff Sanchez is a resident of San Mateo County and graduated from Woodside High School. She began her career in law enforcement as a Reserve Deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in 1987.
She was hired as a full-time Correctional Officer in 1988. In 1989, after graduating from the Police Academy, she was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff and worked various assignments within our Corrections Division, Patrol, Investigations, and Emergency Services Bureaus. Continuing to work her way through the ranks to Sergeant and then Lieutenant, Sanchez ultimately became the Bureau Commander of Investigations and commanded our Narcotics and Vehicle Theft Task Forces.
She was promoted to Captain in 2003, where she was responsible for the Corrections Division, Operations Division, and Investigations Divisions. In 2008, she was appointed to Assistant Sheriff. As an integral member of the Sheriff’s executive team oversaw the Corrections Division and the planning and construction of the Maple Street Correctional Center.
Most recently she was responsible for the Field Operations Division, Homeland Security Division, Northern California Regional Intelligence Center/High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, and the San Mateo County Narcotics and Vehicle Theft Task Forces.
As Undersheriff she is now responsible for the day to day operations of the Sheriff’s Office and reports directly to the Sheriff.
Undersheriff Sanchez earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Saint Mary’s College of California. She is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy, the United States Military Academy’s West Point Leadership Program presented in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department.
She additionally completed the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Executive Development Course and attended Harvard’s Business School of Executive Education. She is currently enrolled at the Naval Post Graduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security Executive Leadership Program.
